Star-shaped demonstration “CSD Berlin Pride” on June 26, 2021 – Activists are already planning a Pride “star-shaped demonstration” in June. The concept: several smaller demonstrations, each with its own thematic focus, will march simultaneously through the city. The demonstrations are to start in different Berlin districts and then converge on Alexanderplatz. The plan was developed to avoid large gatherings of people during the pandemic …
… but also, according to the organizers, to give “visibility and space to the diverse and multifaceted people who have been part of Berlin’s LGBTIQ* community for decades.” The initiative aims to move away from the notion “that one institution has a monopoly on organizing a CSD Pride demonstration.”
In close coordination with the assembly authorities and the police, the star-shaped demonstration will be designed to comply with COVID-19 regulations, and hygiene protocols will be regularly updated. The team is being coordinated by Stefan Kuschner, a former board member of the Berlin CSD association.
Three demonstrations have been registered so far, with more to follow. "Eastpride" focuses on the lesbian and gay movement in the GDR and East Berlin. It starts at the Gethsemane Church in Prenzlauer Berg and begins with a Protestant church service. The situation of queer infrastructure during the pandemic is the subject of a demonstration starting in Schöneberg, which includes cultural workers and those in the club, restaurant, and event industries. Another demonstration starting in Kreuzberg has an anti-racist and queer-feminist focus and is being organized by members of the QTBIPOC* community.
