Pride - The Movie >> A must-see

In the summer of 1984, in Britain under the rule of Margaret Thatcher, an unusual alliance of two groups was formed: A gay and lesbian group from London decided at the 1984 Gay Pride demonstration to collect donations for the families of striking miners under the name "Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners" (LGSM).

After initial rejections due to prejudice from the union, the group independently sought a location to support. The small Welsh mining village of Onllwyn agreed to a meeting. The unusual arrangement caused friction on both sides. Thanks to the efforts of some of the miners' wives and a dazzling dance performance by the eccentric Jonathan, the ice seemed to be broken. However, an opponent of this alliance informed the press, which ridiculed the strikers. Nevertheless, a delegation from the village made a return visit to London, where the organization had arranged a benefit concert with the band Bronski Beat. After the strike ended, the miners traveled by several buses to the Gay Pride parade in 1985, where they led the procession.
