In the summer of 1984, in Britain under the rule of Margaret Thatcher, an unusual alliance of two groups was formed: A gay and lesbian group from London decided at the 1984 Gay Pride demonstration to collect donations for the families of striking miners under the name "Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners" (LGSM).
